A downtown State College bakery is closing its shop after a little over a year in business.

Caramel Afternoon Pastry and Catering’s last day of business at 214 E. Calder Way will be Sunday, Oct. 18, owner Seyhan Baskaya wrote in a social media post.

Baskaya said she will be focusing on the catering aspect of the business.

“After a year and a half of running the shop, I’ve realized that most of my revenue comes from my catering business, and I don’t necessarily need a 2,600-square-foot space to continue growing that part of my business,” she wrote. “Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to find a more suitable location to keep the shop going, so I’ve decided it’s time to close this chapter and sell the equipment I no longer need.”

The shop’s equipment and assets will be for sale during an open house from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Oct. 24 at its Calder Way location.

Baskaya was a business banker in Turkey before pursuing the culinary arts, working in kitchens her native country and across Europe before moving to the United States eight years ago.

She opened Caramel Afternoon in late June 2025, offering a menu of items that draw on American and European tastes, including tarts, cheesecakes, croissants, tiramisu, cakes, cookies and more.

The shop also has offered breakfast sandwiches, granola bowls, avocado toast, paninis and a variety of coffee drinks, milkshakes and matcha, among other beverages.

Baskaya welcomed customers to stop by, say goodbye and enjoy their favorite items one last time.

“Thank you from the bottom of my heart for all your support, kindness, and every single purchase you’ve made from my shop,” she wrote. “Your support has meant so much to me, and I’m incredibly grateful for every one of you who has been part of this journey.

“Although this chapter is coming to an end, I’m looking forward to seeing what comes next.”
